The New Chapter: the story behind the brand and our size guide

You may have noticed that The New Chapter does not call its collections collections. They are Chapters, which fits the idea behind this Dutch kidswear brand perfectly. At HEY MAUSI, we love The New Chapter for its colors, prints and comfortable sets that are anything but boring. And there is one question we hear again and again: What is The New Chapter sizing like? Time to take a closer look.

The idea behind The New Chapter

The name says it all. The New Chapter draws inspiration from real stories of parents and families and translates them into hand painted prints. From a story, a mood board, and a color palette, a new Chapter is born with its own unique little world. That is exactly what makes the prints so interesting to us. They are part of a bigger story, rather than simply placed on a garment.

Clothes for more than one Chapter

The New Chapter designs many styles as unisex pieces that can be worn for longer than one season. Many pieces can also be combined with each other within a Chapter. A sweater with matching pants works as a complete set, while each piece can also be mixed with something already in the wardrobe. You can see this especially well in the current styles. For example, you can wear the Billie Sweater Polkadot together with the matching Wolf Sweatpants Polkadot as a complete set. But both work just as well individually. The same goes for the checker look in orange and purple. The Billie Sweater Checker and the Wolf Sweatpants Checker belong together, but work just as well separately. That is exactly what we like about sets like these: lots of color one day and just one piece the next.

What is The New Chapter sizing like?

Now for the practical part. The New Chapter uses combined sizes for many items, for example 62/68 or 122/128. This can be a bit confusing when ordering at first. The current Billie Sweaters and Wolf Sweatpants at HEY MAUSI, for example, run from 62/68 to 122/128. In our experience, these combined sizes tend to run generous. For example: With a height of approximately 126 cm and a regular clothing size of 128, the combined size 122/128 still fit without any problems. If your child normally wears the upper end of a combined size, you don't automatically have to jump to the next size up. Would you like to measure again precisely? Which size should I choose?

With combined sizing, we would first look at your child's current height, and not just the number currently on the tag of their favorite pair of pants. If your child is, for example, about 124 to 126 cm tall and usually wears size 128, 122/128 can still fit very well depending on the item. Of course, every child is built differently, and the fit also varies depending on the garment. Jeans fit differently than sweatpants, and an intentionally relaxed sweater can have a little more room. Are you unsure about a piece at HEY MAUSI? Just send us a quick note. We would rather help you choose than have two sizes travelling back and forth.

Why The New Chapter at HEY MAUSI?

The New Chapter fits right in with the brands we choose for HEY MAUSI: colorful and playful, but still uncomplicated enough for every day. And you don't have to stay within one collection at all. The Riley Leopard Denim Pants can, for example, be worn with a simple knit or long sleeve shirt. Or you can use color as a starting point. The Jhené Mars Red Cardigan brings red and pink together and works over a shirt, dress, or long sleeve. Sometimes a small detail is enough. The Vesper Socks Stripes, Dots & Hearts Set of 3 add color to an outfit without the entire look needing to be bright. This creates exactly what we like most at HEY MAUSI: kidswear that feels fun and still works every day. Discover all The New Chapter styles at HEY MAUSI →
